"We take cash and local checks" has been our mantra for four years, but as of tomorrow, that will change! Thank you to Hasemann Funeral Home and American Broadband for helping us say proudly, "Yes, we can take your credit card!"

Last night, Wayne Area Economic Development, at their annual Chamber Banquet, recognized The Majestic Theatre as the Most Valuable Patron of 2014! We could joke that we've always known we were the most important! But, in truth, it was a surprise and an honor. We hope that we're ever more vital to Wayne and that every year we bring more to the community. Thank you!

We love 3D movies, and we really love 3D movies for kids. But we know that sometimes our littlest moviegoers have a hard time with 3D glasses that slide off their faces. The solution? Our new 3D glasses just for kids! They're smaller and lighter and easier to put on and take off! Big thanks to Magnuson Hopkins Eyecare for helping us see everything a little better!

The documentary Farmland is coming to The Majestic May 1-4! This is a movie about family farms: their struggles, and, unfortunately, their decline. This is relevant to all of us in a rural area, and it's a rare opportunity to see rural life celebrated on the big screen. It even features a local farmer from a family a lot of people know! This is all fantastic and we're all really excited to be one of the theatres chosen to show it, but it gets even better: F&M Bank is sponsoring the movie, so all showings of Farmland all weekend will be free! The shows will be full, so be sure to get here in time to get a good seat!

The Majestic Theatre's 2nd Annual Movie Awards Party is coming soon, and there are just a few tickets available. This year we hope to see all the flappers and their swell fellows dressed for a good food and a great time! Tickets are $30 a person and are available at The Majestic and at the Chamber office on 3rd Street. Can you predict who will win? Come find out with us!

You don't have to drive out of town to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on opening night; you can see it right here in Wayne! We will be showing a special double feature of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire Thursday night, starting at 6 for just $8. We'll also have Catching Fire again at midnight, and then we'll have lots of showtimes all weekend. And all of the regular shows of Catching Fire will be just $4. Tickets Thursday night will go on sale an hour before the shows start, so get in line early. May the odds of getting a good seat be ever in your favor!

We are planning a night of entertainment you can see but you still won't believe! Nationally recognized illusionist REZA will be preforming three shows on Saturday, September seventh! He's amazed people all over and now he's going to perform feats of illusion that we still can't figure out. There is a four o'clock family show with a magic workshop at three, and then shows for adults at seven and nine thirty. Tickets are available at The Majestic and at the Chamber of Commerce, and group discounts are available.

People have asked for a while if we would ever do a midnight movie series, and we have put one together! But, you know, some of us can't stay up that late, and others want to go have a drink after a movie. We have a solution to both problems: we'll do our midnight movie at 10 o'clock!

The Majestic and the WSC wrestling team are joining forces to bring you not one but TWO nights of entertainment: $20 gets you The Big Lebowski here at The Majestic and a night of pizza, pop and bowling at Wildcat Lanes! You can see the movie here Thursday or Friday night and bowl Friday or Saturday. Where else can you find such a great deal? Tickets are on sale at The Majestic and on campus - just look for a wrestler!

If you're like us, you like movies. And if you like movies, the Academy Awards are kind of like the Super Bowl: your favorite doesn't always win, but they’re fun to watch! And this year we’re having our first ever Oscars party. The show is Sunday February 24, and we’re going to have great food, some drinks, maybe a game or two to make the awards show even more fun… but mostly we’ll dress up and watch the awards live on the big screen. The party starts at 6pm and lasts until the awards are over. Tickets are $25 apiece and are limited, so get yours early! They go on sale Thursday January 17 at the theatre and when they’re gone, they’re gone!

The Wayne State College chapter of Circle K, the college-level branch of Kiwanis International, has been putting on a Halloween party for kids in Wayne for years, and this year they're doing it at The Majestic! There will be games, prizes, a costume contest and more, all over the theatre. We invite all kids aged 0 to 12 to come and have a fun and not-so-spooky Hallowwen treat!

The Majestic Theatre and Stand For The Silent, Wayne's anti-bullying group, are working together to bring the documentary Bully to Wayne, and all shows will be free. SfTS solicited donations from local groups and businesses to make sure that anyone who wanted to see Bully could do so. Every show will be followed by a discussion about bullying and what someone can do if they see bullying happening. That week, the Wayne public schools will devote a day to Rachel's Challenge, a program that encourages people to think about the effects of their actions, and with them, we are proud to be part of Wayne's month-long "Nice is Cool" campaign, which challenges everyone in Wayne to do one random act of kindness in the month of September. It's so much more than being against bullying; it's about being FOR respecting everyone and trying to treat everyone with kindness! You can see Bully:

We have a new dispenser for buttery topping! (It's so easy to make us happy around here.) We would like to thank JV Brummels for donating the money for our extra cool new dispenser. Now we just have to learn to use it!

If you like movies, the Academy Awards are like the Super Bowl. And this year, The Majestic is having a pick-the-winner contest! Print an entry form here or get one at the theatre. If you pick the most winners, you will win a one-year pass to The Majestic! (If there is a tie, we'll do a random drawing from the winning entries.) All entries are due by 5pm Sunday February 26!

I really do have a hard time wrapping my brain around it: we've been open a year. It has been an absolutely wonderful year, too. This project is something of an experiment, and it is going even better than we hoped. The support we've gotten from everyone has been overwhelming: you guys really do want to come see movies! And a lot of you volunteer to make sure it all works! Thank you, everyone, for spending your time with us this year. I can't wait to see how much more amazing next year will be!

Things are as busy as ever here at The Majestic. Sunday 10/16 we will have the second in our Community Cinema series: Deaf Jam, about kids who take their sign language petry into the world of spoken poetry slams. (Ah, to be so young and fearless....) And Halloween is just around the corner! Saturday the 29th we will have a kids afternoon, starting with a costume contest at 1:30. (Registration is at 1.) There will be prizes for boys and girls in two age groups (0-5 and 6-10) with two categories in each group, as well as a grand prize for best costume. And after the contest, we will have Labyrinth for free at 3! And finally, for the grown-ups, that weekend we're going to have the ultimate horror movie: Psycho, at our normal showtimes. You're going to need a cup of our cappuccino to keep up with all of it!!

So many of you are asking about the movies you really want to see. And part of me wants to reply, "Of course we're getting that!" But, how would you know? You don't live in our heads. (Which is good. It's crazy there.) So, I figured you might think it was nice to have some idea of the movies we have on our radar. The following list is not in a precise order, could change, and might not be all we show. But assuming everything goes as planned, we will almost certainly have:

We've been open almost half a year! It's been a great opening, and we owe it all to you! To return the favor, we're going to have a FREE showing of the movie that has been requested the most: Gone With the Wind! Saturday June 11, at 1pm, we're going to settle in and watch Scarlett, Rhett, Melanie and Ashley make their way through the Civil War, and we're going to do it the way it was meant to be: on a big screen, in surround sound, and with a complete intermission. (We'll have special food options that day, so stay tuned!) To join us, all you have to do is get a ticket: they're available at the Chamber of Commerce and at The Majestic during business hours. You don't have to have a ticket to get in, but those who have tickets are guaranteed a seat, so be sure to get yours soon!

And then on April 30th and May 1st, we will be presenting a special sing-along version of Grease, with a dinner-and-a-movie package available for the 30th. Watch this site, and our facebook page, for information about getting tickets to both of these events!

The Majestic theatre is proud to host the Nebraska premiere of Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time, a documentary exploring the life of famed American ecologist, forester, and environmentalist Aldo Leopold. Known for his 1949 book A Sand County Almanac, his ideas about the necessary relationship between humans and the land we use and enjoy have been influential in the development of modern environmental ethics. Green Fire will be shown Wednesday April 20 at 4pm and 7pm. This film is sponsored by the WSC College of Natural and Social Sciences, the WSC Department of Life Sciences, and the WSC Biology Club. Both showtimes free and open to the public. Watch our website and Facebook page for more information.

The Wayne State College Student Activities Board did more than help us sell soda: they donated their portion of the proceeds back to the theatre! Rather than take the $112.21 they could have kept, they decided to leave it in the theatre's coffers to help pay for the next round of upgrades. Everyone involved with the theatre would like say a big THANK YOU! to the Student Activities Board!

Tangled is HELD OVER! Attendance was so strong for Tangled that Disney has requested that we hold it over this weekend. And, really, who are we to argue with Disney? So if you missed it, you have a chance to see it, and if you loved it, you have a chance to see it again!

The Majestic Theatre will be showing their first 3D movies this weekend. The cost for 3D movies will be $6, which is still far less than 2D movies at other nearby theatres.

Volunteers are finding out that spending a little time selling concessions is not a bad way to spend the evening, and is a great way to help support The Majestic Theater. To volunteers, stop in during our (admittedly odd) business hours, or contact Melanie Loggins.
